It was the aim of the author to approach a more clear understanding of the spread of Christianity in China. For this purpose he paid special attention to several topics, which are relating to the theme of the book and at the same time have not been properly inquired into. Such approach determined the structure of the book, which consists of the preface and ten chapters.

The main goals of research have been elaborated in the preface. The first chapter presents a short outline of the history of Christianity in China and of its current status in the People’s Republic of China. The second chapter describes the new religious movement of Falungong. Though it has nothing to do with Christianity, it reflects some characteristic features of the folk religious life on the China mainland.

The third chapter concentrates on the Christian development of such specific Chinese society as Taiwan, which for more than half a century (or more than a century, if the Japanese occupation is taken into account) have been separated from the mainland.

The fourth and the fifth chapter deal with the Christian beliefs of the leaders of Kuomintang, the party which influenced the politics of China and Taiwan for nearly a century, – Sun Yatsen and Chiang Kaishek.

The sixth chapter also relates to Taiwanese religious realities as it depicts the history, theology and current state of the sect called «Assembly House Church» or «Local Church». The beliefs of this sect illustrate the specific perception of Christianity by Chinese traditional consciousness. But for that new sectarian movements on the mainland are the Local Church spin-offs.

The chapters seven to ten deal with the activities of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Beijing. The author speaks about such aspects as translations of divine services texts, of Holy Scriptures etc., establishment of missionary stations in the hinterland, opening of the representative office of the Beijing Mission in Moscow in the early 20th century. Special attention is paid to the compilation of the contemporary Russian- Chinese Theological Dictionary.
